COUNSELLING

For those who prefer straight talk therapy, Able Art Therapy can provide direct [talk] counselling as short-term, early intervention support for people experiencing mild to moderate distress or life challenges. This service sits within a stepped care framework and focuses on strengthening coping skills, emotional wellbeing, and day-to-day functioning.

Sessions offer a supportive, non-clinical space to explore current concerns, develop practical strategies, and build resilience. Support is goal-oriented, time-limited, and tailored to individual needs.

Counselling may support people experiencing:

  • stress, anxiety, or low mood

  • adjustment to life changes or transitions

  • relationship or work-related challenges

  • early signs of emotional distress

  • increased vulnerability without acute risk

Our counselling is trauma-aware, person-centred, and strengths-based, and may draw on approaches such as psychoeducation, CBT-informed strategies, mindfulness, and emotional regulation skills, where appropriate. Where a person’s needs extend beyond the scope of this service, referrals and pathways to more intensive or specialised care are discussed collaboratively, in line with NSW Health guidelines.

Able Art Therapy recognises and acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional owners and custodians of Gadigal Land where this website was made, and of all other unceded lands of this Country. Able Art Therapy also acknowledges that First Nations cultures have held a deep knowledge of the healing, teaching and holistic power of art long before art therapy even became a concept in Western practice.

Able Art Therapy welcomes people of all identities, backgrounds, bodies, cultures, abilities, neurotypes, genders, sexualities, ages, and lived experiences. Our practice is committed to respect, cultural humility, accessibility, and creating a space where difference is honoured and safety is prioritised.
